My name is Stephanie Palmer. I am majoring in marine science and am thinking of double majoring in environmental science. I have grown up in the state of Florida, the east coast to be exact, but I've come a long way. I was born in Lawton, Oklahoma. People always ask me why I am here. My dad is an orthopedic surgeon and he used to work with the army, which is the reason I was born in Oklahoma. The goal of my parents was to move to Florida afterwards, but we ended up in Georgia. After living in Georgia for a little while, we finally moved to Florida and I have been here for around 15 years. As a kid, I was always fascinated by sharks and sea turtles. I have always enjoyed going to the beach, going boating, and anything dealing with the ocean. If I could spend every minute of my life in the ocean I would, hence my major. When I became very serious about this, I began to volunteer at the local marine life center near my home, Loggerhead Marine Life Center. I volunteered with the camp this past summer and the summer before that. I got to teach children about sea turtles and why they are endangered. That's where my love for environmental science came. I realized there are so many threats to sea turtles and other sea creatures that are caused by humans. I want to help out in anyway possible. I took AP Environmental Science my senior year in high school and that made me realize how badly we are damaging the earth.
